What's New in 3.0?

Big Business 3.0 uses a new data engine offering greater speed, reliability, compatibility, and extensibility. The conversion to the new engine required the replacement of a variety of operations and screens. The following changes and problems are noteworthy:
Changes:
- Faster searches and sorts
- Better stability and scalability
- Improved compatibility and extensibility
- New Print Preview
- Updated Custom Form / Report tool
- New Reports: Sales Taxes, Royalties, General Ledger, Trial Balance
- New Q&As: Customers by Sales, Open Orders by ETA
- New Alerts: Task Not Complete, Custom Form Page Setup
- Printing has been improved throughout; "Letter (small)" is now the preferred paper size.
Problems:
- Custom Forms may need changes to Page Setup to align properly.
- The Graph tool does not print.
- The Web Server Add-On is not available in 3.0.

* Updated Big Business Help documentation is available from the Help menu or by pressing the F1 key while running Big Business.
* A demo file, Demo File.4dd, is installed in the program directory (c:\program files\big business, inc\big business\demo). User passwords are blank. The user, "New Hire" has a *few* tasks as Notes from the "boss."
* To switch data files, hold down the Alt key IMMEDIATELY AFTER launching Big Business.
* To create a New data file, hold down the Alt key immediately after launching and on the Open File dialogue, click New. Name and save the new file. A Data folder is provided in the Big Business installation folder for storing your data file(s).
* The limit of five open windows has been removed. Opening too many windows may degrade performance and stability.
* Company files converted for use with Big Business 3.0 are not usable with earlier versions of Big Business.
* To Uninstall use the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel Applet. Files not created by the installer will need to be Deleted manually, including: the "ACI" folder found in your Windows folder.

Upgrading or Updating
---------------------------------
* If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Big Business, uninstall the prior version as follows: backup your data file or and/or move it to a safe location, run Add/Remove Programs (Start > Settings > Control Panels) and uninstall, then manually delete the ACI folder (C:\windows(winnt)\ACI), before installing 3.0.

Installation and Registration

To install, run bb_306.exe by double-clicking the file you have downloaded, or by clicking Install on the CD splash screen. Using the default setting is recommended; just click Next.
* Installation on Windows NT or 2000 should be performed by an Administrator-level user.
* On Windows 2000, the following files and folders (and their contents) in the Windows folder should have permissions set allowing Full Access to Everyone: the ACI folder, any 4DNCxxx.INI file; to enable restricted-access users to create cache files and preferences. Right-click on an item and select Properties to set Permissions. Search http://solutions.bigbusiness.com for more detailed instructions.
