MacOS 8.5: Appearance Conflicts

Mac OS 8.5 includes the Appearance Control Panel. We are told some (non-Apple) Themes which alter Menus conflict with Big Business, causing crashes when menus are accessed.

We found systemwide problems when Appearances were used initially. Restarting eliminated the problems. (3325)

Platinum which ships with Mac OS 8.5 does not appear to cause a problem. We will conduct more testing, and would appreciate any feedback to:

For the record, we did test a couple of Themes (Gizmo & Hi Tech). During this limited testing, we were unable to crash Big Business. We did manage to crash everything else!

When trying a custom desktop, the results were a bit grainy. An attempt to fix the image (re-rendering an EPS in Photoshop) failed, because Photoshop crashed when the Edit menu failed to appear. Back in Big Business, dragging across all menus (to open them in rapid succession) was no problem. Maybe there's so much RAM allocated to Big Business (favorite app) that it's impervious? The Get Info window, however, crashed the Finder when trying to use the Pull-Down to get at the (new) Memory window.

NOTE: Themes seem to stabilize once the machine has been Restarted.

We have received reports of Appearance conflicts with other extensions, including Apple Menu Options.
