Assigning Customer Codes Using a Custom Report


Big Business includes Preferences for automatically assigning Customer Codes to new Customers, and requiring Unique Customer Codes. These options are found in Customer Prefs at the end of the Customer toolbar.

These settings only affect new Customer Cards. Checking for Unique Codes is also performed when you change an existing Customer Card.

This Solutions describes a Custom Report which can be downloaded and run to assign Customer Codes to existing Customer Cards. (5790)






To Install:
1. Download ftp://ftp.bigbusiness.com/v4/templates/CustomerCodes.TXT
(hold down the mouse or right-click on the link below to Save As...)
2. In Big Business (Client) go to the InfoCenter toolbar, to the Custom Form tool
3. Click Import and select the downloaded file
4. In the Custom Report, go to the small File menu and choose Save As... (CustomerCodes)
5. Close the Custom Report window by clicking the Close Box.

To Run:
5. Back up your data file.
6. Go to a Customer QuickSearch and find a group of Customer (e.g. Customer Code Is Equal To --blank--)
7. Click a column header to Sort the results if needed
8. Click Print and select the Custom Report (CustomerCodes)
9. If prompted, set the Page Setup and click Print on the print dialog

The report will prompt for a starting number. Enter the first number to be assigned (e.g. 1000) and click OK. The found Customers will be assigned sequential Codes starting with the beginning number (e.g. 1000, 1001, etc.). The report will print one page. These Customer Cards will be locked In Use (viewable but not modifiable) until you close the Customer List window.

If you are using Customer Prefs to automatically assign Customer Codes to new Customer Cards, check the Next Number (in Customer Prefs) to ensure there is no overlap.
