Chapter 35 Secure Credit Cards

Secure Credit Cards stores credit card information securely by encrypting

  Credit Cards

Credit Cards are handled in two ways in Big Business: safe storing and fast processing.

Safe storing of credit cards is built-in to each Big Business and just needs to be enabled. This is done by turning on Secure Passwords, then Secure Credit Cards, and restarting.

Fast processing of credit cards uses the Authorize.Net Connect Add-On plus service. You need an account with Authorize.Net, a Visa Solution, and any Merchant Account. If you have a swiper for walk-in customers, you already have your Merchant Account.

Of course many options are available for a custom connection to your service provider, many imports support online payments, and the bottom line is always cost efficiency. This Solution will list changes, such as to the Credit Card widget and dialogs to update.

Big Business 13.70 and Big Business 14.27 update Credit Card widget appearance, again.

Big Business 13.35 updated the Credit Card widget to Apple Optimize.

  Secure Credit Cards

Big Business includes the option to store Credit Cards, using strong encryption. This Solution describes Secure Credit Cards and its data entry features. (6131)

Secure Credit Cards adds a field and pull-down menu with the following features:
• type the last four digits of a credit card that has been previously saved
• choose Add to enter a new card number
• choose Edit to edit the selected card number
• choose Show List to select from a list

To enable Secure Credit Cards:

1. Open Employee Prefs
2. Check the box for Secure Passwords
3. Click Yes on the, would you like to enable Credit Card features, dialog.
4. Save the Employee Preferences

When you sign in again, the Credit Card Widget will appear (on the Customer Card, Sales Order, etc.).

  Secure Credit Cards, Show List

This Solution describes the Secure Credit Cards option to Show List, which lets you select from a list of a Customer's credit cards, without displaying sensitive data. Show List includes Cardholder, Last Four, Expiry, Description, and Last Used. (6170)

The Secure Credit Cards option to Show List lets you select from a list of a Customer's credit cards, without displaying sensitive data.

Show List includes:

• Cardholder - the name that appears on the card

• Last Four - the last four digits of the credit card number

• Expiry - an indicator that displays: OK, Expired, or Check, if the card expires within 60 days

• Description - is automatically filled in with credit card type and can be used for any other information that might help to identify cards.

  Secure Credit Cards, Cannot Edit

Cannot Edit Credit Cards restricts an Employee's Access so they cannot view or change Secure Credit Card entries.
(6180)

To prevent an Employee from being able to view or modify Credit Cards entries, open the Employee Card and on the Access tab click the checkbox for, Cannot Edit Credit Cards.

When the Employee signs in again, he will be unable to use the Edit option in the Credit Card widget, so will be unable to view Credit Card numbers.

Secure Credit Cards, Checksum for Card Number

Secure Credit Cards uses a checksum (Luhn algorithm) to confirm that a valid card number is entered. If the checksum fails, because a digit is incorrect, missing, transposed, etc. an error reports, "Invalid Card Number". This Solution describes this feature. (6197)

Secure Credit Cards uses a checksum to ensure a valid card number is entered. If the checksum fails, an error reports, "Invalid Card Number". Any transcription error such as missing, incorrect, or transposed digits can cause the checksum to fail.

This feature provides some assurance, if the checksum succeeds and there is no error, that the card number has been transcribed correctly. It is important to note that this does not ensure that the card number is correct, active, or, for that matter, real.

For example, and for testing purposes, the account number, 4111-1111-1111-1111, can be used and the checksum will succeed even though it is not a real card number.

  Secure Credit Cards, Delete

The option to Delete a Secure Credit Card entry appears on the Edit window.
(6210)

To Delete a Credit Card, from the credit card pull-down use Show List to select a credit card entry, then use the pull-down menu again to choose Edit. On the Edit screen, where you can see the credit card details is a Delete button. Click the Delete button to delete the credit card.

  Secure Credit Cards, Logos

Big Business 14.63 updates the logos used by Secure Credit Cards to use current logos.

After you Add a Card Number, Big Business displays the last four digits and the logo that shows you the Type of card: Visa, MasterCard, American Expess, or Discover.
